Apparently I have sparked a little ire, Horst. You make good points. But let me be clear. Never have I suggested the reading public is “ignorant.” All I am suggesting is that a writer’s work is first and foremost for himself/herself. Writing only for a mass reading public or only what “sells” can send one down a rabbit hole. One has to be “selfish” in the best sense of the word. That’s my take, and mine alone. And maybe that’s a little selfish. Best to you and your writing.
